The Sessions
The KMI series usually involves 10-15 sessions, depending on your needs. Each session addresses a different aspect of your structure and movement. We will not necessarily always be working where your problems are; the best results are obtained by working with the whole body pattern in sequence.
Generally speaking, each session will last between one and one and a half hours, though the length of each session varies with individual requirements. Please allow two hours for your sessions.

Scheduling
Most people schedule KMI sessions once a week, but this can be varied according to your situation. Scheduling less than once every three weeks can possibly lead to a loss of 'momentum' for the series. If pressed for time, it is better to crowd the early sessions of the series, and give more space between the latter sessions.
KMI is a discrete project, not an ongoing maintenance program. Once you have chosen to undertake KMI sessions, it is best to set up a program with as few interruptions as possible. Some places in the KMI series are more amenable to a break than others, so let us know ahead of time if you need a longer interval for whatever reason. No matter how long you wait between sessions, however, it is seldom necessary to repeat them.

|
Must I continue through the entire series once I begin?
Try one session and see how you feel about it. If you like the one, go for three. After three sessions, it is better to commit yourself to the rest of the series, although the choice of continuing is always in your hands, of course.
If you decide to take a break in the series, for whatever reason, please let us know in advance, so that we can set the breaks where they will not interfere with your progress. Even with a substantial break, we will usually continue where we left off.

Clothing
Most people get their sessions in underwear, or a bathing suit. We need to see you standing or walking periodically during the session.

Pictures
Pictures may be taken before you begin your first session and periodically thereafter. These provide a record and a useful tool in monitoring your progress. You may request a duplicate set of pictures to keep personally. The pictures, like everything else about your KMI sessions unless you agree otherwise, are confidential.

|
Homework
While there are no assigned exercises or regimens prescribed along with KMI, you may receive cues on improving the pattern or your walking, breathing, sitting, or other daily activities.
It is recommended that you keep some sort of journal during your KMI sessions.

|
Exercise
Exercise in conjunction with your sessions is very beneficial. At minimum, a daily walk will help you notice and integrate the structural changes into your movement.
Whatever your exercise program, you will notice changes and shifts in your perception of your body, and in your behavior and movement. Stay attentive, adding in the balance, length, and openness developed in your sessions.
During the series, however, is not the time to push your body to its limits. If you involved in strenuous sports or performance arts, stay with your normal program or even cut back a little while we are working. After the series is done, you can again test the edges and see how your performance has improved.

|
Diet
A normal, balanced diet is recommended during your sessions. Making sure that you have adequate supply of protein, water, and Vitamin C will improve the results. Stay attentive to your body's needs; your appetites and sensitivities may change during your sessions.

Other Therapies
KMI is not a substitute for necessary medical or psychiatric care. KMI practitioners do not diagnose or treat, they are merely re-educating your body's pattern of use. Nothing is added but information.
If you are under a doctor's care for specific problems, he or she should
be informed of your plan to undertake the KMI series. We will be glad to
discuss the series with your health care practitioner.
Most conventional, alternative, and complementary therapies work well in conjunction with your KMI series. Psychotherapy, massage, physical therapy, acupuncture, and most chiropractic or osteopathic manipulations will dovetail well with your KMI work. Please, however, do let us know what you are combining with KMI.
While you are doing KMI is not the time to undertake other deep bodywork, which may conflict with or confuse our results.

|
Contraindications
Those with 'hot' diseases, infections, fevers, inflammations, or recent trauma should not undertake KMI sessions until these conditions are resolved.
Rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, asthmatic episodes, or anxiety attacks can occasionally be aggravated by deep connective tissue work. Proceed with caution.
KMI is not recommended in severe cases of osteoporosis or osteomyelitis.
Please, it is your responsibility to inform us of all your past and current medical conditions, surgeries, treatments, and medications.
